Deysi Cortes (She/Her)

Hi! My name is Deysi, and I’m so excited to be joining the Athena Montessori Academy family as a floater. I’m originally from Mexico, where I earned my degree in Social Studies and Law. During my four years at university, I spent my summers working at camps in the United States;  and that’s where I discovered how much I love working with children. It was also during those summers that I met my husband! After we got married, I moved from Mexico to Austin, and we’ve been building our life here ever since.

My journey in early childhood education began at those summer camps, but it wasn’t until my first job in a Montessori school that made me fall in love with this beautiful approach to learning. I’m constantly inspired by how Montessori education values respect, independence, and curiosity, and I feel so grateful to be part of a community that nurtures those qualities in children.

In my free time, I enjoy repotting plants and exploring garden centers and nurseries in search of new ones to add to my collection. I also love spending time watching shows with my husband and our sassy, sweet Cavalier Spaniel, April.
