Hello Athena Families!
My name is Asma Fazal (pronounced Us Ma). I am so excited and honored to be part of this amazing community! This is the start of my 3rd year at Athena. I absolutely love working at Athena. It's my second home. My home away from home.
I am lucky to have started my journey at Athena as a guide in Primary 4 with Ms. Lynda and Lisa. Then to have been part of one of the most amazing team duos at Athena, Tiffany and Drew in P3. I am eternally grateful and blessed to have them in my life, always. I wish them all the LOVE and HAPPINESS in the world. I miss them with all my HEART. They are forever with me and P3.
My journey at Athena continues as I continue working with one of the sweetest and coolest people in this world, Ryann. She’s the absolute BEST! And I’m so excited to work with my friend Cesca, this year! Go hummingbirds!
A little about me, I was born and raised in Birmingham, England (just like in the Netflix show, Peaky Blinders). I am half Syrian and half Afghani. My family moved to Chicago, Illinois when I was 10 years old. I am the eldest of four, with a sister and two brothers.
I moved to Austin a few years ago. I am currently working on my Bachelors/Masters in Speech Language Pathology at Texas State University.
I am a Muslimah (a Muslim woman) and I am also a Muhajibah (a Muslim woman who wears a Hijab, the scarf on my head) as part of my religion, Islam. In Islam, Muslim women are considered precious treasures and what do we do when we have a treasure or in this case are a treasure? We cover it and protect it. That’s what my Hijab does for me, it protects me. The Hijab and Niqab(veil) which I wear outside of work, is only worn in front of men that are not family, and not in front of women or children. If you have any questions or are just curious please don’t hesitate to ask me anytime.
In my free time, I love to read books and manga, watch anime, listen to music, workout, bake, and binge all my favorite shows.
I will miss all my graduates with all my heart! I love you all so much wherever you go, always and forever. I’m looking forward to meeting new hummingbirds this year. I’m excited about starting another year, full of lots of love, hugs, caring, kindness, learning, and growing with the children.
With lots of love,
Asma
