Kayla Highlander (She/Her)
Primary 1 Lead Guide in Training
Hello Athena Families,
My name is Kayla Highlander, and I’m so excited to be joining the Athena Montessori Academy community. Teaching has been a part of who I am for as long as I can remember — from running pretend classrooms in my childhood bedroom to pursuing a career where I get to nurture and guide young minds every day. I’ve been working with children for nine years, and in 2018, I discovered the Montessori method. I instantly fell in love with its gentle, respectful approach to learning, where every child is seen, heard, and valued. I completed my Montessori certification last year through the Prepared Montessorian Institute, and I’m deeply passionate about creating an environment where children feel safe, curious, and inspired to reach their fullest potential.
What I love most about working with children is witnessing their innocence, wonder, and the pure joy they find in the simplest moments. There is something so magical about seeing the world through their eyes — it constantly reminds me to slow down, stay curious, and appreciate the beauty in every day. I feel truly honored to play a small part in their journey.
When I’m not in the classroom, you can usually find me outdoors, hiking, or exploring nature with my dog and partner. I also have a passion for collecting old treasures, reading, and treating myself to a coffee. These moments of calm and connection help me recharge and bring my best self back to the classroom.
I’m beyond grateful to be a part of this warm, welcoming community and look forward to getting to know each of you and your wonderful children. Thank you for trusting me with such an important part of their lives. I’m excited to grow and learn alongside them!
Warmly,
Kayla
