Hello Athena Families,
I began my journey at Athena in the Summer of 2020, and am so excited to now be entering my second year as the Tots 3 Lead Guide. I admire the strong sense of love and dedication shared amongst the staff and geared towards giving our students the most quality Montessori experience possible. I have greatly enjoyed creating relationships with the children and celebrating big and small wins. Their joy is contagious and I come in every morning genuinely excited to share the day with them.
I worked at Athena as a Tots Assistant Guide, Support Guide, and Lead Guide for the After School Program before becoming a Tots Lead Guide. This will be my second year leading and I cannot wait to continue to learn and grow alongside your children. I am in the process of receiving my Montessori certification from The Center for Guided Montessori Studies and I am eager to bring what I am learning into my classroom. I have always had a passion for working with children, and now I have a more rich understanding of how to best support them during this stage of development.
At a young age I was crowned as the built-in babysitter for my large family. I have always enjoyed being in the presence of children. I learn so much about taking risks and being overjoyed to just exist in the world. From 2017-2019 I spent some time traveling and teaching English in Zambia, Thailand, and Cambodia. From that, I grew a passion for celebrating one's differences and I strive to pass that along to your children. No matter where I was in the world I was always drawn to children and the vast lessons they have to offer.
Prior to working at Athena I did after school care for Mathews Elementary School and worked on the crisis hotline for S.A.F.E Austin. I was born and raised in Austin and love to explore our constantly changing city. In my free time I am a Ballet Folklorico instructor in East Austin, I enjoy roller skating downtown, and I am always up for cuddles from my dog, Cooper!
I am honored to be a part of this community and a part of your children's journeys.
With love,
Alicia
