My name is Trece Spalten and I am thrilled to begin another year as part of Athena’s wonderful community. Together with Ms. Laura, I will be serving as an assistant teacher in the pre-primary room and am looking forward to an exciting new year!

I graduated from St. Edward’s University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, completing several classes in child psychology, child development, family systems, and education. Shortly after graduating, I serendipitously discovered Athena Montessori Academy as it was about to open its doors for the first time in August 2006. I quickly fell in love with the school and my team of teachers and staff, which motivated me to dedicate the next two years to working at Athena in the Pre-Primary room with the wonderful Ms. Laura.

I then felt the pull to explore other options in my life and relocated to Chicago, IL to pursue a Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology. However, I realized that the program was not for me and, dedicated to following my bliss, I left graduate school to find something else.  After many twists and turns, I ended up in another Montessori school in Chicago, in their toddler program, which completely reignited my passion for working with children in a Montessori environment. I decided that if I was truly going to dedicate myself to working with Montessori education that there was no better school and community than Athena, and began making plans to return.

I moved back to beautiful Austin in August of 2009 and am so proud to be back at Athena, a true home away from home. I look forward to meeting and greeting each one of you personally, and have great expectations for the upcoming year!
