free the child's potential

I am the lead teacher in Primary 2 at Athena Montessori Academy.  I am excited to say that this will be my third year at Athena!  Prior to being at Athena I worked at The Montessori Center in Hyde Park for ten years. I was looking for a new home that could inspire me and to support me in my next level of growth as a teacher, and I have found all of this and more at Athena.

My teaching style consists of first and foremost emotionally connecting with and nurturing the children.  It is always my goal to create a classroom community where we can learn and support each other in a respectful and peaceful way.  I believe the children at this age are exploring their social and emotional skills that will last a lifetime. And, I think an emotionally safe classroom environment is the perfect place for them to practice these skills.  Additionally, I thoroughly believe and trust in the Montessori academic process.  Over the years, I have observed children exhibit the focus and drive to learn in the way that Maria Montessori herself spoke about over 100 years ago.

I emphatically believe that the other important component of creating a respectful and peaceful community is the connection I have with the children’s parents in my class.  It is important to me to stay in close communication with parents about what is happening in the classroom as a whole, and individually with each child. By modeling healthy communication between adults, we can foster healthy communication in the children we are all serving.

I look forward to another exceptional year!

Sincerely,
