Hello! My name is Keyla Martinez and I am proud to be your Lead Guide in the Sparrow (P3) classroom! Primary 3 is where I began my professional journey in Montessori five years ago and I am thrilled to be back and to be working with Kimberly. To those of you I do not yet know I look forward to getting to know you and your children.
I am an NAMC certified Montessori Teacher at the Infant/Toddler level (infant to three year olds) and NAMC certified at the Primary level (three to six year olds). This is my fifth year in this wonderful community and I am honored to be welcoming you to what has become a second home to me.
I grew up in Nicaragua, moved to L.A. California when I was a teenager, and in 2001 my husband Elvin Moreno and I moved to Austin after deciding that finding a safer place to have our children was our top priority. Now I find myself in the most rewarding job I have ever had, with two beautiful boys, Elvin and Marcos, and of course our dog named Bobby. We love swimming and most outdoor activities.
Children are our most precious gifts in life! Our objective in the classroom is to make a child’s first school experience a positive one by providing a nurturing and supportive environment in which a child can grow and develop socially, academically, cognitively, and emotionally.
In the first six years of life, a child learns his languages (or sometimes several languages), which is why one of our goals is to have a bilingual classroom. At this age children also learn how to communicate feelings and ideas; learn about culture, animals, plants, trees growing cycles, seasons, weather, families and strangers; living and non-living things; what can be eaten, and how to use all of his physical abilities in walking, running, crawling, etc. The children become independent, make their own friends with peers, and begin to develop a moral awareness of right and wrong, as well as learn about the consequences of poor choices. They learn about their environment, society, family holidays and traditions, as well as math concepts, science concepts and how to express themselves through artistic endeavors with pictures, drawings and paintings. And this list really is just the tip of the amount of knowledge a child assimilates in this most important introduction to their lives!
My personal mission is to provide the finest Primary education to the children in my care to start them on, and to support them, as they begin their journey in life. I feel fortune it that I get to learn from the children every day and look forward to another year with some of the most amazing little minds. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child’s life.
Sincerely,
Keyla Martinez
