My name is Gabe Maroney, and I am excited to be back this sixth year in Athena history. The last five years have been fantastic; Kim, Holly and I are excited about the changes and updates to our room that the students will benefit from.
I grew up in Portland, Oregon where I learned the love of the outdoors and all of the activities that go along with it. I come from a large family with four brothers and one sister. Needless to say, it was a frenetic household, but I learned the art of conflict resolution at a very young age.
I moved to Austin in 1996, where I soon began my work with young children. I have been an afterschool teacher working with children age six to twelve. I helped build and then taught at Primavera Montessori School for two years, and after a two year hiatus rearing my youngest son into toddlerhood, we discovered Athena.
I keep busy with my children, Miles (13), Daschel (6) and Sage (<1), as well as my two dogs, Pearl and Bunny. We all like to attend concerts and shows, ride bikes, skateboard, swim in the springs, and enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. One of my greatest passions is music…I am a member of a ten piece soul band “The Lost Soul Revue” and also a member of a five piece jazz band “The Heirlooms”. I also enjoy working with my hands, whether I’m building something, fixing something, or making art. I’m excited to share this enthusiasm in the classroom during the day so we can let our creative juices flow!
Thank you for allowing me to spend time with your children. They energize me, and I learn something new from them everyday. I look forward to learning more about you and your family. If you ever have any ideas, questions, or concerns, I am available for you at any time!
Mr. Gabe
