Dear P3 Families,

Hello! My name is Aimee Stupak, I am one of your lead guides for Primary 3! I moved to Austin in 2007 directly after graduating from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. My original intentions were to reward myself for the hard work that I put in to my degree by bartending in Austin for a year. And now, almost four years later I find myself in the most rewarding job I have ever been a part of, with a certification from the American Montessori Society in Montessori for the Primary ages (3-6).

I grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut where I was raised by a single Mother of three girls. From the very beginning, I was provided with a nurturing, balanced and organic environment in which I was allowed to raise tadpoles, dig for worms, and get my clothes dirty whenever I chose to do so. Having a Mother that is both a R.N. and an artist, I have learned to care for the world around me and to find creative ways to do so from a very early age.

I have a very rich history of involvement with children of all ages. I began to baby-sit/nanny as soon as I was able and have developed many close relationships with families over the last ten years. My love for children has influenced many choices in my life, including my decision to commit to a locally owned toy store from the age of 16 to that of 22 years. It was this particular job that offered me a first look at Montessori-influenced materials and their beautiful way of “speaking” to the young child. As my position at the Toy Chest began to gain more and more responsibility, it was clear to me that my future career would involve the young mind. A friend recommended that I read “Maria Montessori: Her Life and Work”, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Eight Montessori-related books later, I reserved my spot in an AMS training program in Boston. I was ready to become a part of something bigger than myself, and the Montessori Method became that piece. I spent the summer of 2008 being blown-away by the work of Maria. I studied the theories on child-development and practiced with academic materials that I feel still, after one hundred years, hold more teaching power than any others to date.  I learned so much and was then blessed with an opportunity to put my studies to work with the wonderful Athena community. The past two years have been an experience that I will never forget and will always be thankful for. We had (and still have) a beautifully diverse group of children and families that are more supportive than I could ever ask for. I learn from the children every day and look forward to another year with 25 of the most amazing little minds. I feel so fortunate to have a part in the molding of them! Thank you for allowing me the privilege of helping to shape your child’s being.

Sincerely,

Aimee Stupak
